PWA Digest is a collection of over 700 progressive web apps.

A not-for-profit site created to increase awareness, discoverability, and use of progressive web apps (PWAs).

The Collection

Here you can find  PWAs that are compatible with mobile devices running Android, iOS, ChromeOS, and Windows. PWAs are compatible with the majority of web browsers, and although major app stores are accepting PWAs into their collections, they are not labelled or searchable as such. This collection makes it possible to search your subject of interest, then install the PWA on your device with one click. Removing a PWA is as simple as uninstalling an Android or iOS app. This site contains no advertising, and no registration is required. PWA Digest can be installed on mobile or desktop like any other progressive web app.

Navigating the collection

The collection is arranged by A-Z subject pages. Return to the Home screen through either the menu Home button, or by pressing the PWA Digest globe found in the top left or bottom of each page.PWADigest blue icon

The Search box will retrieve a relevant page when your search term is listed in the collection. A small number of PWAs can be found on more than one page. In those instances, two or more pages will be retrieved.

Content & Language

The collection includes a significant number of Australian PWAs and sites from many countries across the world. The majority of PWAs are in English, however three significant collections, Newspapers, Sport, and Weather, contain PWAs in other languages.

Apps listed in the database are privately owned and PWA Digest is not responsible for their content, functionality, or their privacy policies.

This site is intended for people aged 16 years and over. If you are under 16 years, do not use this site.

PWA Ecosystem 2023-2024

Microsoft’s PWA Builder surveyed the PWA landscape between Aug-Oct 2023. The Report revealed only 37% of PWAs implemented Service Workers and only 58% of the URLs had a valid, detectable manifest. The percentage of PWAs without Service Workers confirmed observational data gathered by PWA Digest in 2023.

The Collection in 2023 contains PWA sites with a manifest, service worker, and storage. Continuing to build the Collection in 2024, PWA Digest will include some PWA sites without a service worker if they enhance the Collection and there is no alternative PWA site.

Installation with Android

Many PWAs will automatically prompt an install button when you visit the app in the web browser. If not, tap the menu button next to the address field and select “Install” in the list of options.

Note: If installing via the PWA Digest app, tap the menu next to the address field, and select “Add to Home screen.”

Installation with iOS

When using a PWA in Safari, tap the up arrow button in the browser. Scroll right among the options that appear and select “Add to Home Screen”.

Collection guidelines

Apps are included on the basis of their usefulness to users. New content is test-installed on mobile and desktop to verify installability, functionality, and file size.

We make use of Google Lighthouse, an open-source, automated tool for improving the quality of web pages, auditing for performance, accessibility, PWA, and SEO. Microsoft PWABuilder is also used to verify if an app can be included in the collection.

Why use PWAs?

PWAs are served over HTTPS and are therefore safe and secure. Users don’t need to visit an app store to manually update their apps. As a website, a PWA is updated automatically and small in size, often less than 350 kilobytes. They are responsive and designed to fit all form factors, mobile, tablet, or desktop.
